The creation of our travel agency and tour operator was not limited to the formal signing of an ethical charter.
With many years of experience in tourism as guides and tour leaders, our team has a deep understanding of realities on the ground. Before defining a company structure, we took the time to sit together and reflect on what truly mattered: who we wanted to be, why we do this work, and how we want our travelers to experience the world.
Very quickly, one conclusion became clear: our approach had to be built around strong human and environmental values.
Traveling with Tumbo Travel means, whenever possible, choosing routes away from mass tourism.
That said, we are fully aware that at certain iconic destinations, avoiding mass tourism entirely can be difficult or even impossible. World-renowned sites such as Machu Picchu are a clear example.
For this reason, we prioritize small groups, usually between six and twelve participants, in order to reduce the negative impact of tourism.
When larger groups are necessary, we ask all participants to clearly adhere to our travel philosophy and values.
Our vision of travel is not about visiting places as conquerors or passive spectators, but about fostering cultural discovery, mutual respect, and meaningful encounters.
We believe that everyone has a role to play—both travel professionals and travelers themselves—in limiting the harmful effects of poorly managed tourism, which has already caused significant damage in many destinations due to irresponsible practices driven by low-cost competition.
Our vision is rooted in the idea of fair, participatory, and positive tourism, benefiting both travelers and the people who live in the destinations we visit.
We choose to work with local guides and partners (hotels, transport providers, guesthouses, etc.) under fair and respectful conditions, ensuring appropriate and transparent compensation. Respect for local communities also means refusing all forms of exploitation.
Travel offered at a “low price” always has consequences. Those savings inevitably impact the living conditions of the people welcoming visitors.
Underpaid transport providers may be unable to properly maintain their vehicles, putting both travelers and local populations at risk. Similarly, insufficiently compensated guides and service providers often lack the resources and training necessary to offer safe and high-quality services.
In our view, tourism should be beneficial to everyone: travelers, of course, but also local communities, who have every right to participate in a respectful, fair, and sustainable tourism model.
Respect is the cornerstone of Tumbo Travel:
